Science, MSA University and Helwan University. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, in 2011. Dr. Atia is the Co-Founder of HCI-LAB and heads the interaction group, where his work focuses on pioneering new interaction techniques for large displays, detecting abnormal behaviors in driving vehicles, theft detection, and analyzing sports activities. His research spans a broad spectrum of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), including Gestures and Natural Interfaces, Wearable Sensors, Augmented Reality, and Brain-Computer Interaction. Recently, Dr. Atia has made significant contributions to the fields of Human Activity Recognition and Computer Vision. His work includes fusing Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) with attention mechanisms to enhance real-time indoor Human Activity Recognition, particularly for classifying home-based physical rehabilitation exercises. He has also explored the automation of fruit quality inspection using Transfer Learning and Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), as well as advancing the understanding of abnormal driver behavior detection through innovative machine learning techniques. Despite the educational and research challenges faced in countries like Egypt, Dr. Atia has been a recipient of governmental funding and numerous awards, underscoring his commitment to advancing technology and research in his field.
